Shilpa's happy to see Em go By ALISON MALONEY June 07, 2007
COMMENT ON THIS STORY SHILPA SHETTY has welcomed Channel 4’s decision to remove Emily from the Big Brother house.
The winner of this year’s controversial Celebrity Big Brother said she was “really happy” that the 19-year-old housemate was kicked out for using a racially offensive word.
Speaking at the launch of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) celebrations in Leeds, the Bollywood star said: “I’m glad that Channel 4 has taken action. I’m really happy and I compliment them on the action they have taken.”
Shilpa was at the centre of a huge race row after she was allegedly bullied by Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O’Meara.
Channel 4 were forced to apologise after 44,000 complaints were received.
MP Keith Vaz, who called for C4 chief Andy Duncan to be sacked over the Shilpa race row, said it was right to evict Emily.
He said: “I welcome this eviction. The use of racist language, especially when there is the risk of it being broadcast to millions, must be confronted.
“However, I am not surprised that a contestant has used such language after the failure of C4 to act during the racial bullying of Shilpa in January.
“It is disappointing that Big Brother is still attempting to mitigate the seriousness of the situation.”
